Policies and programs for women

A number of women-centric policies have been introduced at GCI. These include introducing a one-day period leave, offering flexible working arrangements for returning mothers, a mental health hotline, paternity leave, fertility treatment and inclusion of surrogacy under Group Medical policy, travel assistance at odd hours.

Training interventions

With the intent of encouraging GCI’s women employees to take on larger roles at work, plan long-term careers at GCI, and meaningfully inspire women colleagues to advance in their leadership journeys, we curated a mentoring program called She Leads. Span over a period of 12 weeks, the program saw women employees being mentored by Senior women leaders on various topics critical for their growth and progress in the organization.

Joining this company as an openly gay professional has been refreshingly affirming. I didn’t know what to expect, but I’ve found myself in a space where I can speak freely—whether it’s about dating, my ex-boyfriend, or just life—without awkwardness or judgment. The onboarding was smooth, and the sensitization efforts in my first week showed a real commitment to inclusion. That said, there’s still work to be done: gender-neutral restrooms and a more visibly queer-friendly culture would go a long way. But I’m here, I’m seen, and I’m hopeful.

My journey as a trans woman has been full of learning, unlearning, and rebuilding confidence in spaces that weren’t always built for me. When I stepped into my corporate role, I didn’t just bring my professional experience,I also brought my truth. And to have that truth embraced has been transformative. Leading DEI gives me the privilege to turn my story into action and to ensure that every LGBTQIA+ person walking through our doors feels not only accepted but celebrated. We’re creating a culture that doesn’t just welcome diversity but amplifies it. Every policy, every awareness session, every new hire from the community is a promise that we’re moving forward. For me, that’s what true inclusion looks like and a space where we’re all seen, valued, and empowered to rise as our authentic selves.

My name is Kashifa Lohia, and I've been working with Generali Centrel Insurance for the past two years. As a person with a vision impairment, I've found the company incredibly supportive, providing assistive technologies like screen readers. The culture here is very friendly and inclusive, and I've also experienced significant career growth. I joined as a fresher, and in just two years, I've learned a lot and been given equal opportunities and responsibilities. I'm also actively involved in DEI hiring initiatives. The company has been very supportive, understanding, and has helped me grow in my career. At GCI, we strongly believe that our actions and propositions need to mirror society and its evolving needs. Our focus on inclusivity led us to sign up as allies to the LGBTQIA+ community. We’ve joined the LGBTQIA+ community wholeheartedly in celebrating the Pride Month in June each year and have used it to build affinity and acceptance for the community at the workplace. From organizing a pride parade to disseminating inspirational messages from our leadership team to inviting motivational speakers, we try to set the right tone to spread the message.

Redefining Family, Redefining Care

In an industry-first move, we expanded the definition of ‘family’ for our retail health insurance products tso cover live-in couples and same sex couples. We are the first insurer in India to offer equal opportunity to the LGBTQIA+ members in a live-in relationship to secure their health insurance needs. That’s not all. To drive awareness around the subject, we roped in two same-sex couples—Yogi & Kabeer and Adhila & Noora—for the first-of-its-kind OOH campaign titled #RedefinedFamily

I didn’t know what to expect, but I’ve found myself in a space where I can speak freely—whether it’s about dating, my ex-boyfriend, or just life—without awkwardness or judgment. The onboarding was smooth, and the sensitization efforts in my first week showed a real commitment to inclusion.
