DigiLocker is a service launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It is part of the Digital India programme.
Think of it as your digital folder, where you can store all your important documents safely online. Instead of carrying files and papers everywhere, you can store them in DigiLocker and open them anytime on your phone or computer. This removes the hassle of carrying your original documents. All the verified documents in DigiLocker are legally as valid as the paper originals (as per IT Rules 2016). From your driving licence to your certificates, DigiLocker keeps them authentic and easy to use
Getting started is very simple:
1. Visit the DigiLocker website or download the mobile app.
2. Sign up with your Aadhaar number or mobile number. (Your Aadhaar must be linked to your mobile.)
3. You’ll get a one-time password (OTP). Enter it to confirm.
4. Create your own username and password. That’s it — your DigiLocker account is ready.
You can upload documents like mark sheets, ID proofs, or certificates yourself.
● Log in to DigiLocker.
● Go to the “Upload Document” section.
● Select the file from your device (PDF, JPEG, or PNG format).
● Upload and save it.
Your documents are now stored safely online.
The best part of DigiLocker is that many government offices, banks, and insurance companies can directly send your documents to your DigiLocker. These are officially digitally signed and accepted everywhere.
1. Log in to your DigiLocker.
2. Open the “Issued Documents” section.
3. Choose the category (for example, “Banking and Insurance”).
4. Select your bank or insurance provider.
5. Enter details like your policy number or customer ID.
6. Your document will appear in PDF format and get saved automatically.
You can use these digital documents just like originals for verification or claims. These documents are legally valid. You can show them for verification or claims without carrying paper copies.
● Instant Access: Open your insurance policy or other documents anytime.
● Paperless: No need to carry or store physical copies.
● Legally Accepted: Authorities and companies accept these documents.
● Safe and Secure: Protected from loss, theft, or damage.
● Faster Claims: Makes verification and settlement quicker.
Thus, DigiLocker is a simple way to go paperless and keep your important documents always at hand. It’s secure, quick, and helps you manage your papers without any hassle
